Everyone, both young and old, can enjoy dance. Many enjoy dance as a leisure activity whilst some have ambitions of taking their hobby a little further and making dance in to a career.

Dance can be categorized in to two genres – Theatre Dance and Social Dance. Theatre Dance encompasses such styles as ballet, modern dance, and tap dance. Social Dance styles include disco, ballroom dance, and folk dance.

If you are interested in dance as a career, then you should seek professional guidance, for both your dance training and also your career management.

Dance is a tough industry to break in to as there are so many talented individuals, which means your success has to be determined by other factors as well, such as grit and determination to succeed.

Ask any successful dancer how the got to the top and they will tell you that it was no easy accomplishment. It requires huge sacrifices, bucket loads of sweat and tears, and a desire to be the best you can possibly be. The financial rewards are on offer for those willing to commit wholeheartedly. Many dancers are able to earn an income through their dance whilst still in training which can help with the costs of dance schooling.

If you are a young person with a natural talent in dance then you might want to consider talking to your parents about attending a vocational dance school. Students are usually taken on at around 11 years of age and sometimes younger depending on their ability.

Further education, for the older student, offers some great courses for those interested in dance. These courses include the ‘BTEC diploma in Performing Arts’ and the ‘A Level in Dance’.
